David Bowie left our Earth more than two years ago, but he continues to influence modern culture in its various manifestations.
So, from November 25, Ukrainians will be able to plunge into the result of such an impact, which resulted in the production of Dwight Rodin - “Star Dust”. The choreographer will bring a fantastic show along with one of the best modern ballets in the world - Complexions Contemporary Ballet. What makes this show so special?
The Star Dust show was created by one of the best choreographers of our time - Dwight Roden, the founder of Complexions Contemporary Ballet, and the director of such famous dance shows as Cirque du Soleil and The Great Gatsby Ballet. In addition, he created the choreography for the famous dance show "So You Think You Can Dance", and also worked with such stars as Patrick Swayze, Prince, Kelly Clarkson, U2 and Lenny Kravitz. In his production of Star Dust, Dwight pays tribute to David Bowie, whose music played a prominent role in the choreographer’s life.
“Star Dust” is first of all about David Bowie, which means that music will play a key role here. Such compositions as Space Oddity and Rock N Roll Suicide will help to plunge into the world of Ziggy Stardust. Besides them, viewers will recall Changes, Heroes, Modern Love, Young Americans, as well as the artist’s last released song, Lazarus. Complementing music with the language of movement, Rodin wants the audience to feel the emotions that Bowie music can cause.
Complexions Contemporary Ballet has won many awards, including the prestigious Critics' Choice from the New York Times. A significant role in the "Star Dust" is assigned to one of the founders of the ballet, as well as one of the most dancers of our time - Desmond Richardson. Behind the dancer is experience with Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince and Aretha Franklin. In addition, he choreographed for several seasons and versions of the “So You Think You Can Can Dance” project.
New word in the world of dance
Complexions Contemporary Ballet presented the audience not only exciting performances, but also innovations in the world of dance, which can be traced in Star Dust. The dancers are convinced that the dance should break down the barriers, not consolidate them. It doesn't matter if it concerns one particular style, period, place and culture, Complexions go beyond all traditions, creating an open, improved form of dance that reflects the movement of our world and all its components as an interconnected whole. And it can be felt during a ballet performance.
The result of the cosmic combination of David Bowie's music and the choreography of Dwight Rodin was already enjoyed by the Americans. Thus, the premiere of the production took place in Detroit in 2016, and immediately received positive feedback from viewers. Subsequently, the opportunity to evaluate the “Star Dust” was received by the residents of Los Angeles, as described by the LA Weekly edition. In particular, critics praise the approach of the choreographer, thanks to which the audience saw a completely new David Bowie - in the images of the dancers.
It will be possible to plunge into the space world of Ziggy Stardos on November 25 in Kiev, on November 27 in Odessa, on November 29 and 30 in Kharkov and the Dnieper, respectively.
