December 8 at the National Opera of Ukraine - ballet "Children of the Night" performed by folk artists of Ukraine, ballet premiers Alexander Stoyanov and Kateryna Kuhar.
In 2018, the premiere of the ballet Children of the Night - a new breath in contemporary Ukrainian choreography. Talented and courageous artists decided to experiment, and they were told to tell a love story in the language of dance - the legend of Androgyny. These creatures once possessed two pairs of arms and legs in one body, two faces on one head; they were powerful and challenged Zeus himself. For disobedience, Zeus punished them and divided them into two parts - male and female. Since then, each of the particles has to search for its mate. The phrase "Find your mate" came about because of this legend.
Choreographer-director Alexander Abdukarimov. Earlier this topic in ballet nobody touched. The legend is told under the musical motives of great composers. In the first act, the artists dance to the music - Antonio Vivaldi and Max Richter's "Seasons", in the second - Philip Glass, Cliff Martinez, Arvo Perth.
People's Artist of Ukraine Oleksandr Stoyanov: "Children of the night are creatures who emerge from the darkness of the night - these are human fears, doubts, which try to seduce a loving couple in the dark."
People's Artist of Ukraine Kateryna Kuhar: “Ballet is about how two loving hearts endure the test of feelings. About whether they will be able to find and feel their half, whether they will not be tempted, including sexual. In the first act, the heroes find their halves, pass the tests that were prepared for them by the children of the night. In the second act, they encounter a powerful being who possesses incredible energy - the seer who guides the children of the night and wants to separate two loving hearts. "
