After a five-year hiatus, the international festival of experimental music and media art "Gamselyt" returns to Ternopil. From April 25 to 27, the city will become a magnet for artists and connoisseurs of musical experiments from Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and Belgium.
What's new? This year's Hamselity is supported by the British Council Ukraine's "Support for Cultural Activities in Ukraine with the Participation of the United Kingdom" program, which means even more international cooperation, atypical collaborations and in-depth sound research. The locations for the events will be spread across the city, adding an urban context to the sound.
On April 25, the festival will open with an exhibition of contemporary art at the Ukrainian House "Victory". Visitors will be able to take part in a master class on spatial sound from the British organization IKLECTIK - this will be a unique 12-channel sound (ambisonic) and training on how to organize it. After that, experimental composers Ujif_notfound and Alla Zagaykevich will take the stage. The latter received the Shevchenko Prize this year for the music for the film "Dovbush".
On April 26, get ready for one of the most powerful days of the festival. London-based post-industrial project Am Not is known for its hard, mechanical beats that sound like a soundtrack to a post-apocalypse. They will be joined by Ukrainian artists Whaler, Undo Despot, NFNR, Ship Her Son and Andrew Deme. Brutality, sound distortion and maximum concentration of tension - this is what listeners can expect on this day.
The festival will close on April 27 under the banner of global sound experiments. Headliners include Belgian-Congolese composer Cédric Fermont , who works on the border of electroacoustics, noise and sound art. And the British duo Tears | Ov will bring a combination of experimental composition and media archaeology to the stage. They explore how mass media shapes beliefs and disassemble this system into molecules.
Ukrainian heroes Stonefromthesky, Myaso Rave, and Ternopil electronic scene veterans ZSUF will be present. In addition, the lineup will be expanded by two young artists, whom the organizers will select through an open call.
All days of the festival will be accompanied by video art from VJ Lenoczka and broadcast of DJ sets and interviews with participants from 20ft Radio . So even those who cannot be in Ternopil will be able to feel the atmosphere of the festival online.
"Hamsel" returns to expand the boundaries of perception of music and art.
