The performance "Hutsul Wedding" on the stage of the M. Zankovetska Drama Theater!
According to the director and general director of the theater, Rostyslav Derzhypilsky, this is a continuation of the Christmas production "Carols and Dances... From Before the Ages...". The performance was based on the works of Stanislav Vincenz and the ethnographic exploration of Volodymyr Shukhevych
"During the preparation, the difficulty was that everyone said: in my village it was like this, but wait, here it's not like that, friendships had to buy off the bride. So I said: 'Stop! We choose one option that Shukhevych described, and it's where Zhabie (Verkhovyna), or like in Kryvorivna,'" says Rostyslav Derzhypilsky .
On stage, actors will recreate a 19th-century Hutsul wedding ceremony.
To create the play, the actors also went on an expedition. Rehearsals took place in Krasnoyilla in the Hutsul region, where Hnat Khotkevych once created a theater. In the life of Hutsuls, weddings can last almost a month - they have so many festive rituals. The theatergoers barely managed to fit the unique action into a four-hour play - from the engagement to the celebration itself.
