Paul Romero, creator of music for the game franchise Heroes of Might & Magic, will perform for the first time in Kyiv
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 with orchestra: the author of music for the fantasy saga Paul Romero will play it live in Kyiv
The creator of more than 70 original soundtracks to computer games, including the legendary Heroes of Might and Magic franchise, will arrive in the capital for the first time. On June 17, 2022, American composer Paul Romero will perform with an orchestra in Kyiv. The musical genius will play compositions from "Heroes of Sword and Magic 3" and immerse himself in one of the longest-lived game universes on the stage of the October Palace.
Paul Romero's concert is not only an opportunity to hear melodies from your favorite computer game. They are like a real time machine. Music from "Heroes of the Sword and Magic" instantly takes every gamer back to the days when he sat at night at the monitor screen, building magic towers and searching for the Holy Grail. On June 17, monumental melodies from HoMM 3 will sound in a new way, as the orchestra will include Ukrainian folk instruments.
Surprisingly, the composer of cult video games never - even small - admired them. "I spent all my free time at the piano. Probably the piano was my video game. It gave me freedom and hope, whether I was playing Bach or trying to play Britney Spears.
Paul Romero is, without a doubt, a real musical prodigy. He greedily absorbed the sounds of early childhood. At the age of 5, Paul had been improvising on the piano for hours, inspired by the hits heard from the radio, and fell in love with Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninoff. At 11 he played Mozart with the Santa Monica Symphony Orchestra. At 13, he wrote and performed his first piano concerto with the US National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mstislav Rostropovich. At 16, he received a scholarship to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.
What are games for here, you ask? All thanks to a good opportunity. One day at a party, Paul met Rob King. He was looking for a composer who would create music that sounded as if it had been written 300 years ago. Writing time - one week, payment - $400. Romero agrees: why not try and make money? So the soundtrack to the first Heroes Of Might And Magic is born and the story begins for 25 years.
Today, Romero loves to play piano tunes from computer games. So he seems to ask the public riddles. "They've never heard this music performed on classical instruments. So familiar melodies will sound very unusual for them, ”says the composer.
Paul Romero has written a unique soundtrack to the computer childhood of many gamers. Undoubtedly, on June 17, they will recognize their favorite tunes from "Heroes of Sword and Magic 3" from the first notes. See you in the new year at a session of nostalgia from the genius of music Paul Romero!
