Martin McDonagh - Irish by birth, born in London in a family of workers. Both McDonagh brothers, left to themselves, became writers. At the age of 16, Martin left school and sat in front of the TV with chips and cola for several years, living for unemployment. He would call his teachers Martin Scorsese, David Lynch or Quentin Tarantino rather than William Shakespeare. Following the example of his elder brother Michael, Martin began writing scripts and radio plays. For days he sat at his desk, regularly sending his opuses to the editors and collecting refusals. Only two scenarios were accepted - right in Australia. But the famous Martin McDonagh woke up when they approved his "Beauty Queen from Linen", which he wrote in eight days.

Glory and numerous awards fell on McDonagh unexpectedly. His plays were staged in his native London and on Broadway. However, McDonagh considers the theater only a stepping stone to fame and confesses his love for cinema. And it answered him reciprocate: Martin received an Oscar for the short film “Revolver”, set in his own script.

"The Cripple from Inishmaan" - a comedy - the first play from the trilogy about Aran Islands, which also includes the plays "Lieutenant from Inishmore Island" and "Ghost from Inischer Island". The islands are inhabited by aborigines, who still speak only Gaelic.
