The original satirical and realistic story tells about the life of the town of Konotop, the Cossack elder, the centurion of the famous Konotop hundred Mykyta Ulasovich Zabryokha, his scribe Prokop Ryhorovich Pistryak and the witch Yavdokha Zubikha.
