Lesya

Art ballet company, the only neoclassical troupe in Ukraine, presents a unique ballet-biography "Lesya" by Ukrainian ballet master Artem Shoshin, whose performance "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" last year shook up the entire theater and art world of Ukraine.

"Lesya" is the first dance performance about the life and work of Lesya Ukrainka, a woman who became a symbol of femininity, national culture, freedom, and indomitability.

The leading roles are performed by world-famous stars of Ukrainian ballet - prima ballerina, People's Artist of Ukraine Natalia Matsak and Premier of the National Ballet of Ukraine Serhiy Kryvokon.

The amazing fate of the brilliant poet and writer Lesya Ukrainka inspired ballet master Artem Shoshin to create a sublime and metaphorical choreographic story. The ballet demonstrates how behind the image of a canonical figure lies a living woman with her own feelings, passions and dramas. Shoshin's choreography is filled with sharpness and at the same time tenderness: every movement of the ballet is an emotion, every scene is a story.

The libretto is based on real events. The performance, in the language of neoclassical choreography, recreates the stages of the heroine's life and introduces the people dear to her heart in a free, poetically reinterpreted form. This is a ballet about love, creativity, and the heroic struggle against illness.

The ballet is set to poetic and tragic music by the romantic composer Franz Schubert.
