Ukrainian jazz of the 60s on Kyiv Day: MOVA ft. Dubovik and Cherkashin Old School Ukrainian Jazz: MOVA ft. Dubovyk and Cherkashin will take place in Kyiv on May 26, 2024 at 18:00 at Pepper's Club (8 Knyazum Ostrozkih St., building 7). MOVA explores and performs Ukrainian retro music — songs that belong to the golden fund of Ukrainian pop music of the 1960s and 1980s. In the 60s, the Soviet authorities finally lifted the ban on jazz. Ukrainian collectives rushed to create jazz arrangements of folk songs and write original compositions in this style. In the repertoire of the ensembles "Vatra", "Arnica", "Veseli skripy", "Medicus" and others, jazz and its derivatives and accompanying currents - swing, twist, bossanova, tango - took the lead. For Kyiv Day, MOVA will for the first time perform a jazz program together with "Kyiv" songs - a confession of love for our indomitable capital. You have already heard "My Kiev", "On the valley fog", "Fairy tale", "Paint me a night" performed by the band. In addition to songs from the 60s already familiar to you, there will be songs performed by the MOVA group for the first time. We invite you to discover new musical horizons of the past together. "The color and imagery of Ukrainian music of the 1960s and 80s fascinated us. Vadym Korolyuk, a guitarist with multi-genre experience, solved all the harmonic and melodic tasks the band faced during the analysis of the musical material with his instrument. It was he who, with the help of an electric guitar, recreated the playing of string, brass, keyboard and even percussion instruments in his compositions. The competence and passion that settled in us while working on the golden heritage of Ukrainian pop music made the implementation of a complex idea possible," says Andrii Lytvynok, MOVA drummer. "The songs we play, in the original arrangements, are full of rich sound due to the presence of brass and string instruments, piano/keyboards. It is not an easy task for the quartet to convey such a wide sound palette and immerse the listener in the appropriate atmosphere. But no matter how well we do it, the quartet is not an ensemble of 10-12 musicians, says member of the collective Vadym Korolyuk. — So the MOVA band will perform with guest musicians, adding keyboards and saxophone. This will significantly enrich our sound and allow listeners to hear the beauty of Ukrainian songs with their own ears." LANGUAGE is an acronym formed from a combination of the names of the members of the team: Maryan Karpinskyi - bass guitar; Olga Stetsenko — vocals, guitar; Vadim Korolyuk - guitar; Andrii Lytvynok - drums. Kyrylo Cherkashin is a professional saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and teacher. Member of BAH.ROMA, Yevhenii Dubovyk Quartet and Chubareennee. Yevhenii Dubovyk is a composer, pianist, session musician. Writes music for his own jazz quartet. Collaborates with bands and projects "Tsiferblat", Stas Korolev, MUR, "Embrace Rain", VikaVishnya, "Dno" and others. May 26 at 6:00 p.m., Pepper's Club (8 Knyazou Ostrozkih St., Building 7)
