Righteous soul

Symphony-Requiem for soloists, choir and orchestra to texts by Taras Shevchenko is a work born in the midst of historical events. Written in the tragic months of the Maidan in 2014, it became a musical revelation, a prayer, a cry of the soul. Deep lyricism, drama and spiritual purification echo in this work, and each sound leads the listener through pain and hope, through hell and paradise to true catharsis.

The concert "Righteous Soul" in Kyiv will take place on February 24 at 7:00 PM at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine.

Symphony-requiem for soloists, choir and symphony orchestra to texts by Taras Shevchenko "Righteous Soul..." is a work of special sound, written during the difficult months of the Maidan of 2014. This opus worthily continues the remarkable musical series, where the monumental choirs of Borys Lyatoshynskyi stand ahead, the works of Valentyn Sylvestrov, invaluable in their lyrical fullness, and the explosively dramatic "Passions for Taras" by Yevhen Stankovych.

From the very first bars, the symphony-requiem breaks down the listener's usual prejudices. The sound of the introductory phrases, in which one can guess allusions to Mozart's Requiem, creates a feeling that persists until the very end - a feeling of the only true intonation, poignant, concentrated, simultaneously expressive and confessional.

It seems that Bohdana Frolyak wrote in the state that icon painters are in when working, a state of purification from all vanity. As a result, following Shevchenko, the audience opens up to suffering and prayers, literally torn between hell and heaven, truly experiencing catharsis.

Recalling the writing period, Bohdana Frolyak said: "The work was created as if it were not by me. I have a feeling that this was exactly the case when Someone is leading your hand"... Perhaps the poet himself was nearby, or rather, Taras Hryhorovych's soul ached.
