Only a few years ago, Rhye's concert in Ukraine was just a dream. But now it's time to start counting the days before the live performance of mastrs of a "new intimacy".
The authors of one of the best albums of 2013 by Billboard, Pitchfork, Spin, Complex and NPR are going to us. Rolling Stone put their release on the 12th place in the list of the best debuts of the year, above Darkside, Ariana Grande and King Krule.
The concert is presented by the online music magazine SLUKH. It will be held on June 21 in the Kyiv music-hall Bel Etage. Organizer - VIRUS Music.
Their first album "Woman" was warmly received by critics and listeners. Then the Canadian-American group Rhye was a mysterious project whose authors had not disclosed their faces. They were producing clips with women in the lead roles and fragile, intimate songs. The mystical aura around the band evoked interest and multiplied the guesswork of its creators.
Masks were removed soon. Behind them were Danish instrumentalist Robin Hannibal and Canadian musician Mike Milosh with a unique androgynous vocal. Even now, six years after the start of the band, it's still hard to believe that such an intamate music and words were played and sung by men. The second album "Blood" was released in 2018 without the participation of Robin, who left Rhye a year earlier. After releasing the album, the band went on a world tour, playing solos-out concerts in the cities of America, Canada and Europe.
SLUKH Media: «Rhye`s music is unique in its sophistication and in the desire to break the canons of hypersexuality. They sound like secret chamber concerts of Sade with candles. Milosh and his musicians virtually dump delicate strings and winds on a skeleton of languid disco and sensual rhythm and blues. And the vocals – Rhye`s main attraction».
Last year, Rhye gave only 30 concerts in Europe, performing mainly at festivals. They have gathered full halls on both sides of the Atlantic. Among the announced performances in 2019 are also a lot of festivals. Therefore, this solo concert in Kyiv is an exclusive event, one of the rare opportunities to see a unique group live.
So see you on June 21 at Bel Etage.
