"LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL" based on the play by NEDA NEJDANA
"BLACK" COMEDY FOR THE THEATER OF THE NATIONAL TRAGEDY
"Mankind, laughing, breaks up with its past" - that's roughly what the 19th century political-economic blogger Marx said. The play, based on which the play is staged, was written at the end of the 20th century, long before all the revolutions and wars, and in a brutally funny way talks about the nature of human CHOICE. "Even if it seems to you that you are not making a choice, you have already made it" - this is the main message of the performance. If we don't make a choice, it will be made for us. And it won't matter who and what exactly this choice consists of.
The action takes place in the morgue, where two young women were locked up for the night. All that remains is to share thoughts and sort through possible versions of what happened (ranging from drunken hallucinations to nuclear apocalypse).
The play is about the fact that thought will only benefit you when it is the product of the mind, and not of patterns, fears and illusions.
Production by Anatoly Levchenko, the last main director of the Mariupol Drama Theater. He spent 10 months in captivity in Donetsk prisons, and a total of 17 months in the occupation. Actresses from Mariupol are on stage.
