The band was formed in 2007 in London, when Harry McVeigh, a guy with a melancholic look and a memorable baritone, joined Charles Cave and Jack Lawrence-Brown. Two years later, they released their debut album To Lose My Life..., which immediately led the British chart and received a "golden" certificate. In a sense, he is considered one of the most iconic albums in the post-punk river genre.

Listeners and critics immediately fell in love with simple but energetic arrangements, McVay's vocals and cold atmosphere. By the way, about the cold - the video for one of the main hits of Farewell to the Fairground was filmed in the urban village of Nickel in Murmansk. According to the band members, it was really cold there.

After To Lose My Life... White Lies released four albums, which invariably entered the top 20 of the British charts, and were also well received in European countries. Five was released in February of this year. White Lies called his record, which opens a new chapter in the band's career. The guys have lost a contract with a major label. They were forced to make radio-songs for the new release. And they wanted to write everything as originally conceived. Breaking the deal, they found a home on the indie label Play It Again Sam. By the way, another famous British post-punk band Editors is released there.

The determination to go to the end in their convictions was also appreciated by music journalists. On the aggregators Album of the Year and Metacritic, Five has the highest marks from all White Lies albums. It’s worth saying “thanks not only to the perseverance of the band, but also to the experience of producer Mark Ellis, who worked with Nick Cave, U2, PJ Harvey and others.

Very soon, Ukraine will also be able to evaluate the new White Lies, both in terms of music and principles.
