Ternopil Academic Regional Drama Theater named after Taras Shevchenko is one of the most prominent theaters of Ukraine, located in Ternopil on T. Shevchenko Boulevard, 6. It was founded on December 8, 1930 on the basis of the mobile worker-peasant theater named after V. Ellan-Blakytny. Ternopil was destroyed in March-April 1944 during the liberation from the German occupiers, so the artists were given residence in Chortkov.
Since 1945, the theater has been permanently based in Ternopil. On April 8, 1948, by resolution of the Arts Department of the Ternopil Regional Executive Committee, both theaters named after T. Shevchenko and I. Franka - united in one team and began to work in the reconstructed premises of the former sports association "Sokil" until the construction of a new theater premises in 1957.
In 2000, the theater was awarded the title of academic, since then the official modern name is Ternopil Academic Regional Ukrainian Drama Theater named after T. G. Shevchenko.
