"My mother's disco"
The play was staged with the support of NSTDU within the project "OPEN_MIND_STUDENT", initiated by the director-artistic director of the Golden Gate Theater Ksenia Romashenko.
Lena Lyagushonkova's text "Mother of Gorky" is a slice of the epoch, from 1960-2022.
We are talking about a small town in eastern Ukraine, which in 60 years is going through epoch-making changes that cover all residents. This is a story in which our grandparents, parents and ourselves took part. We will no longer be able to erase this historical memory, even if we really want to.
So what to do then? It remains only to remember everything as it was: with humor, with pain, with a share of absurdity and, of course, with the hope that we will eventually find answers to awkward questions. Why are we still afraid? Is communism a relic of the past, or a holy faith as before? Can you forgive your child everything? Is our home here where there is peace, or where there is war and a "wall"?
It is a search for answers to the causes of the problems of the present in the historical past, in their genetic code, in their memories, in their consciousness.
The play "My Mother's Disco" is a look at the problems from the point of view of the young generation, which sees, feels and reflects on what is happening in the world in its own unique way, unbiased and honest.
