About events
In 2019, the jazz festival is scheduled for September 20-22. The second and third days of the festival will traditionally take place on the stage of the Odessa Philharmonic (15 Bunina St.). Here in the unique chamber atmosphere, which has become the hallmark of the festival, 6 international projects will perform.
On September 21, Odessa music fans will be greeted by very different bands, each of whom speaks his own dialect, which is understood by every jazz speaker. The program will open a chic sample of ethno-jazz, which has preserved its improvisational essence without becoming world music. It is a project of the famous German pianist and composer Hans Ludemann Trio Ivoire. Their music is, first and foremost, a jazz of a European school, but critics say that "it has the strongest ethnic accent, and that accent is African." For the peculiarity of the musical pronunciation in the ensemble is responsible for an exotic close relative of all the familiar xylophone - balafon.
Pick up the Austrian trio's baton from Mario Rom's Interzone. The team, led by the talented trumpeter Mario Roma, is no doubt surprised by its improvisations, spontaneity on the verge of musical insight, virtuosity and subtle musical humor. Jazzmen will try to justify the title of "most entertaining and exciting" artists, received from American critics at the very beginning of his career.
Finishing the program on the first day is a beautiful duo of the famous Italian pianist Giovanni Mirabassi and French singer Sarah Lonckman. The musicians will present their new 2019 album Intermezzo, which includes lyrical interpretations that have become classic songs from the Italian Songbook's Golden Fund: Oh, che sarà, che sarà, Vedrai, vedrai, Estate and more.
On September 22, the concert program will begin with the wonderful Greek jazzmen who managed to conquer New York. It is vibraphonist Christos Rafalides and double bassist Petros Clampanis. Both musicians moved to the capital of jazz while still a student. And they were able not only to lose themselves on the strongest jazz stage in the world, but also to take their place of honor there, regularly performing in the famous jazz clubs. The acoustic duo will introduce to the public a mix of jazz standards, original compositions and covers.
On the same day, a concert of the Luxembourg-based DOCK IN ABSOLUTE trio awaits. In their music, critics find echoes of jazz (from mainstream to ECM), baroque, strictly classical academics and progressive rock. Listeners enjoy an unrivaled drive that permeates the musical fabric of everyone without exception. And also deep lyricism, meditatively leading to a state of absolute calm, but at any moment ready to explode with unrestrained fatal reefs.
Complete the official fusion trio of French guitarist Greg Lamy's fusion trio. A native of New Orleans, he has been active in Europe for almost 20 years. Recognized as a "rising star" at the dawn of the two thousand, today Lami - hosted an improviser musician, an original representative of European jazz fusion and an active experimenter. A unique jazz atmosphere awaits the concert, filled with the joy of joint improvisation and music of the widest stylistic spectrum: from lyrical ballads to energetic fusion.
