"Seville Barber" - Opera Buffa in a French play - one of those about which Stendhal said that it was necessary to close his eyes to all senselessness and "just to die of laughter and pleasure."
Joaquino Rossini wrote the opera "The Seville Barber" in a strikingly short time - twenty days (according to other sources, the opera was written about two weeks). Not over one opera, Rossini did not work as enthusiastically as over this piece. By his own admission, he "composed music everywhere: and when he walked, and when he ate, and when he stood, he lay, in a word, constantly."
