The building of the Ivan Franko Theater in Kyiv was built at the end of the 19th century on the territory of the Friedrich Mering. The room was intended for the troupe of Mykola Solovtsov, which later transformed into a separate collective of the Russian theater. Since the construction of the Frank's Theater, a spring has remained on the site of the lake, which is revered by the actors as a source of creative power.

After a long period of performances in various cities, the troupe, led by Gnat Yura, settled in Kyiv. In 1940, the Frank Theater received academic status. During the war, the building of the drama theater was almost completely destroyed. After the reconstruction, the layout and design of the premises were changed, the hall was designed in the rococo style, and the performances of actors favorite by the audience resumed.
