About events
"Bolero" by Maurice Ravel, which is the musical hallmark of many symphony orchestras, was initially conceived as a choreographic work, and was first performed at the Parisian "Grand Opera" during an evening of Ida Rubinstein's entreprise.
The composer himself wrote: “In 1928, at the request of Mrs. Rubinstein, I wrote Bolero for the orchestra. It is a dance at a very moderate pace, completely unchanged both melodic and harmoniously and rhythmically, and the rhythm is continuously reflected by the drum. The only element of variety is the orchestral crescendo. "
The work has become so popular that it has taken an important place in the repertoires of many theaters around the world.
"Bolero" also received its choreographic embodiment on the stage of the Odessa Opera. Natalia Barysheva and Mikhail Petukhov (now teachers-tutors of the theater) told the story of Galatea to the music of Ravel. The choreography was done by Georgy Kovtun.
