Kurgan is a solo music project by Yevhen Volodchenko, a member of the popular Kharkiv band Kurgan & Agregat.
The musician released his first EP "Library of Strange Knowledge" in 2018. In his work, the artist consciously goes away from trivial mediocrity and constant copying of himself. Instead, the rapper leaves the household joke and immerses himself in deep philosophical questions.
A real artist who is not afraid to be himself
The member of the rap trio "Blessed Silyans" Yevhen Volodchenko in his solo project is even more interesting in terms of creativity. Thus, in the tracks of the first solo mini-album "Library of Strange Knowledge" a new sentimentality is broadcast through surzhik and retrowave beats. The works impress with their sincerity, immediacy and courage.
The lyrics of the "Library" tracks are pure thoughts of the author, who did not try to "comb" and decorate for a serious release. And profanity in the album is also an important element of relevance and sincerity. However, Kurgan's poetry is not vulgar. It is natural in synthesis with a colorful image of a "strong duck".
In 2019, Kurgan presents the next solo work - the single "White Noise" and a video for it. Another "sad and beautiful" song comes to Zhenya's fans and inspires the author to further masterpieces.
And already in 2021 the full-length "Quantum Surzhik" is published, full of philosophical questions, interesting characters and much more "incomprehensible". In the album, through the prism of expressed gloom, Kurgan gives his deep look at our existence, combining irony and suffering in the tracks: "I wanted to save this measure, but then I gave up"
It should be noted that in his work Kurgan does not try to become as clear as possible for each listener. Eugene understands: who needs it, he will "understand". And it works in the meantime. And a growing number of fans deliberately "abnormal" or strange lyrics.
