Khanum

“Khanum” is a cheerful two-act musical based on the play by Avksenty Tsagareli (adapted by B. Ratser and V. Konstantinov, translated by A. Perekalchuk and O. Kabakov).

An old prince—a notorious spendthrift and reveler—decides to marry a young and beautiful woman, Sonya, in order to improve his financial situation. However, she is in love with her young teacher, Kote. The complicated situation is taken on by the experienced matchmaker Khanum.

The story unfolds in the colorful district of old Tbilisi—Avlabari—home to princes, merchants, artisans, and kinto, the soul of the city. It is a place filled with joy, warmth, and a spirit of multicultural friendship.

The clever schemes of two matchmakers, Khanum and Kabato, turn the prince Pantyashvili’s marriage plans into a whirlwind of events filled with humor, songs, dances, and traditional Caucasian toasts.
