"What's That?" is a performance by the Kyiv Playback Theater "On Guard," which will take place on May 22 at 6:30 PM at the DAKH Center for Contemporary Art. This is an evening of live theater without a script, where the audience's stories are born right on stage and transformed into art here and now.
"What's this?" can be about anything: something funny that left you giggling for half the evening, a moment that caught you by surprise, a conversation that still haunts you, or an experience that's hard to immediately explain in words.
Kyiv Playback Theater "On Guard" invites you to the Central Music and Drama Center "DAKH" for a performance in which stories from the audience are transformed into stage action right before the eyes of the audience. Without a script. Without prepared roles. Without trying to pretend that there are simple answers to complex questions.
Here, theater is born from what people bring with them: memories, losses, strange coincidences, tenderness, rage, intimacy, fatigue, moments of strength, or questions for which we still have no words.
You can simply watch the play unfold. Or you can share your own story—small or big, funny or painful, your own or one that still lives somewhere between you and someone important. The actors and musicians will hear it and bring it back to stage form in a moment.
Sometimes it's laugh-out-loud funny. Sometimes it's very quiet. Sometimes you suddenly feel: this is about me too. "What is it" is a space where there is a place for different voices, different experiences, and even for what has not yet been put into words.
You don't need to be "comfortable" or ready to draw the right conclusions. It's enough to be alive.
