The Odesa Regional Philharmonic named after David Oistrakh is a landmark concert organization not only for the regional center, but also for the whole of Ukraine. The institution, located at 15 Nina Strokatoya Street, was founded in 1931. And since then it has played a key role in shaping the cultural space of the country. It was on the stage of the Philharmonic that the legendary satirist Mykhailo Zhvanetsky began his creative path, as well as a number of other famous figures of Ukrainian art.
The importance of the Philharmonic in the artistic life of the region and the country is difficult to overestimate. The institution not only organizes concert events, but also carries out creative management of the activities of the artists who are part of it - solo musicians, performing groups and representatives of colloquial genres. In addition, the Philharmonic regularly serves as a venue for touring concerts by Ukrainian and foreign artists, remaining an important center of artistic dialogue and cultural exchange.
At first glance, the Odesa Regional Philharmonic captivates with its architectural grandeur. The luxurious facade immediately sets you in an elevated mood and suggests that high art reigns inside. The inner courtyard, decorated in the spirit of the Renaissance, creates a special atmosphere of intimacy and aesthetic harmony. Massive vaults, elegant cornices and artistic wall decoration form a holistic, thoughtful space in which a creative dialogue of architecture and music is formed.
The building has the officially established status of an architectural and historical monument. It was erected in 1899 in the style of Italian, in particular Venetian, Gothic, which includes elements of the Renaissance. The author of the project is Ukrainian architect Vikenty Ivanovich Prokhaska. The construction was supervised by Oleksandr Yosypovych Bernardazzi. The large concert hall, designed for more than 1,000 spectators, is considered unique due to its artistic design and exceptional acoustic properties.
In December 2023, the building of the Odesa Regional Philharmonic named after David Oistrakh was included in the International List of Cultural Properties under Temporary Enhanced Protection by UNESCO, as one of the five cultural heritage sites of Ukraine recognized as particularly valuable for world culture.
