"I am Lesya"
documentary-poetic performance
March 14, Saturday
16:00
"Hangar", 9 Zaliznychna St.
We invite you to a thrilling, lively documentary-poetic performance "I am Lesya", created in 2021 in collaboration with the Garmyder Theater, young actresses of the DogoryDrygom Theater Workshop, and the Frontera Literary Platform as part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Lesya Ukrainka's birth.
The play centers on the journey of 15-17-year-old actresses into the world of the equally young Lesya: from childhood to girlhood, from first doubts to the formation of her own voice. The girls try to overcome stereotypical ideas about Lesya Ukrainka and befriend the one who knew first love, depression, and understood for sure that writing in Ukrainian is cool.
This is a frank conversation about growing up and the courage to be yourself. Words and movement in this performance are the only ones, The plastic language of the performance is expressed by the work of plastic artist Yulia Varchenko.
"I am Lesya" is a performance for young and mature people, for those who love Lesya Ukrainka's work and for those who consider it irrelevant. And, perhaps, in the finale, you will catch yourself making a frank inner confession: "I am Lesya."
