THE FAT PIG
What if you really like someone, but you're constantly worried about what others will think about it?
The Fat Pig is one of the most famous plays by American playwright Neil LaBute. It was first staged in New York in 2004. LaBute is known for not being afraid to talk about uncomfortable things - about relationships, appearance, complexes, the desire to please others, and how easily we ourselves become part of other people's rules.
At first glance, it's a simple story. Meeting. Sympathy. Relationships. Ordinary people and ordinary life.
But gradually everything becomes more complicated.
Because we live in a world where a person can be judged by one look, one number on the scales, or simply by how much they correspond to someone's ideas about the "norm".
This play can be funny. It can be uncomfortable. It can make you recognize someone you know in the characters. Or maybe yourself.
"Fat Pig" is a story that you don't want to tell in advance. It's better to see it for yourself.
And then leave the theater and think:
how many times have we allowed someone else's opinion to decide who we can love?
