Kyiv Opera (Opera and Ballet Theatre for Children and Youth): History and Location
Kyiv Opera welcomes guests and residents of the capital at 2 Mezhyhirska Street. The venue is located in a unique palace building that is part of the architectural ensemble of one of Kyiv’s oldest districts – Podil. The theatre was founded in 1982 under the name State Children’s Musical Theatre. The institution has been known under its current name since 2019. Today, the director and artistic director of the Kyiv Opera is Honoured Worker of Culture of Ukraine Petro Kachanov.
Features and Hall Capacity
The auditorium of the Kyiv Opera can accommodate 436 spectators. Since 2016, a chamber stage has been operating, hosting performances and concerts. The separate «ART STAGE of the Theatre» features an amphitheatre with 120 seats.
Striving to constantly improve the quality and standard of its productions, the theatre actively uses audiovisual content. The availability of appropriate equipment, the use of innovations in lighting and sound technology, the professionalism and innovative approach of directors, and support for young creative projects – all of this makes the Kyiv Opera a popular leisure destination for Kyiv residents and visitors to the capital.
