“Quietly Without Words”
“Quietly Without Words” is a mono-performance built around one of the most fascinating genres of Ukrainian musical culture — the urban romance, or chanson.
The performance is woven from songs and texts by Ivan Franko, Lesia Ukrainka, and Taras Shevchenko, set to music by Bohdan Vesolovskyi, Anatolii Kos-Anatolskyi, Arkadii Filipenko, and other composers. French and Polish chanson also play an important role, naturally intertwined with the musical culture of Lviv.
The main character is a Young Woman whom we may encounter every day — on a city square, in a tram, or on a train. She is constantly moving, while the scenery of life changes around her. Yet the memory of her roots and her inner voice remain unchanged.
This is a performance about a person within the city, about loneliness, and about the strength of a voice capable of overcoming the emptiness within.
