Kozak System is a Ukrainian rock band whose music is known today not only in Ukraine but also far beyond its borders. The band's songs have become powerful anthems of important events in the modern history of our nation, including the Revolution of Dignity (the track «Brother for Brother»).

History of Creation
The history of Kozak System began in Kyiv, where several experienced musicians decided to unite for the sake of a new creative project. Before 2012, most of the members performed as part of the band «Haydamaky», but a conflict with its leader Oleksandr Yarmola became the catalyst for the creation of an entirely new group. The musicians wanted to develop their own style, where Ukrainian music would organically combine with modern genres and a powerful concert sound.
The band's birthday is considered to be May 20, 2012, when Kozak System held their first solo concert in Ternopil. Despite attempts by a former colleague to prevent the performance, the concert took place and gathered a large audience. For frontman Ivan Lenio, it was a particularly emotional moment, as it was the first time he appeared on stage as the leader of a new band. Later, the musician repeatedly recalled this day as a difficult but defining debut for the group.
Choice of Name
The name Kozak System accurately reflects the band's philosophy. The word «Cossack» symbolizes freedom, strength of spirit, independence and patriotic values, while «system» emphasizes unity and togetherness around an important goal. This is how a style was created where Ukrainian culture meets contemporary sound.
Creative Journey
Despite all the difficulties at the beginning, the musicians immediately started working on their debut album. They received great support from friends in the creative community – Yurii Izdryk and Serhii Zhadan provided their lyrics for new songs, while Katia Chili and Andrii Sereda joined the recording of vocal parts. In November 2012, the first album «SABER» was released, becoming an important event for the Ukrainian music industry.
A special place in the album was given to the song «Brother for Brother», written by Sasha Polozhynskyi long before the beginning of the Revolution of Dignity. Later, this track became an unofficial anthem of the Maidan, and its lyrics became a symbol of Ukrainian unity. During the first year of the band's existence, the group also released two music videos – for the songs «Saber» and «So Tempting». The latter later became the soundtrack of the popular TV series «The Last Muscovite».
The year 2013 marked an active development of the band's concert career. The group toured extensively across Ukraine, Poland and Germany, represented Ukraine during the Days of Ukraine in Great Britain, and also performed on the folk stage of one of Europe's largest festivals, Przystanek Woodstock, where they gained new fans and international recognition.
The Revolution of Dignity Period
In the winter of 2014, the lives of the musicians, as well as the entire country, changed dramatically. Kozak System became one of the most active artists of Euromaidan. The musicians regularly performed on the main protest stage together with leading Ukrainian performers. The band not only gave concerts but also openly supported Ukrainians' fight for freedom.
At that time, Ivan Lenio and his friends came up with the idea of creating a song that could raise people's fighting spirit. This is how «Brother for Brother» received a new life, and already on the night of December 1, the music video was filmed without lengthy rehearsals. The work immediately became one of the most recognizable musical symbols of the Revolution of Dignity.
During this period, the band also became a kind of voice of the Ukrainian Maidan for Polish media. The musicians regularly appeared live on Polish television, gave interviews in Polish and told the world about the events in Ukraine.
Creative Development
A new stage of creativity began in 2014 with the release of the joint album «Songs of Self-Guidance», recorded together with Taras Chubai. The idea of combining Ukrainian ethnic traditions, rock energy and reggae belonged to bass guitarist Volodymyr Sherstiuk, who had long dreamed of creating such a project. The album included modern interpretations of Cossack songs, as well as compositions based on lyrics by Kost Moskalets and Bohdan Ihor-Antonych.
In March 2015, the third album «Live and Love» was released, with its Polish version titled Kochaj i Żyj. Its presentation turned into a large-scale concert at the Atlas club in Kyiv.
That same year, the band performed at the championship celebration of the football club «Dynamo» (Kyiv) together with Okean Elzy, VV and SKAI, while the concert summer began with a performance at the international festival Oświęcim LIFE Festival, where they shared the stage with UB40, Chris De Burgh, Lemon and other world-famous artists. In August, Kozak System became one of the headliners of the Czech festival TRUTNOFF, performing alongside The Prodigy, The Subways and Matisyahu.
After an intensive tour in 2016, the band presented the release «Not Mine», and by 2017 their concert geography included Ukraine, the USA, Canada, Poland, Germany, Ireland and England.
Participation in the Eurovision National Selection
At the beginning of 2018, it became known that Kozak System would participate in the Eurovision National Selection with the song Mamai, written to lyrics by Mykola Brovchenko. Despite fans' expectations, the performance did not receive high scores – the band received modest points from both the jury and the audience.
Interestingly, during the broadcast Jamala admitted that she had strongly admired Ivan Lenio during her years of studying at the conservatory. At the same time, the professional jury gave the performance only one point, and Andrii Danylko noted that he lacked drive and stage charisma.
2019–Present
The period from 2019 to 2026 became a time of major creative and ideological transformation for Kozak System. At first, the musicians experimented with their sound, worked on new releases, romantic compositions and prepared for the band's anniversary. However, the full-scale invasion radically changed their priorities.
Charity performances became increasingly frequent – at volunteer centers and in frontline cities. The band's sound became even more powerful, and every new track turned into a musical manifesto of resilience, support and belief in victory. The band's leader Ivan Lenio has repeatedly emphasized that today their concerts are primarily an honest dialogue with people.
By 2026, Kozak System had fundamentally rethought the format of their shows, turning them into large-scale charity events where music unites people around a common goal. Today, the band continues to actively tour Ukraine and the world, remaining one of the leaders of the modern Ukrainian music scene and an important voice of the cultural front.

- release of the album «Fallen in Love Thieves» and the single «Fly» from the upcoming album «Earth. Wind. Fire»;
- creation of popular hits «Ukrainian Sun», «People-Titans» and the single «Wine»;

- cultural mission (representing Ukraine on international stages).
Style and Themes of Songs
The foundation of Kozak System's creativity is the band's unique combination of rock, punk, reggae, ethnic motifs and Cossack energy, which the musicians themselves call «Cossack rock». The band's signature style is characterized by a powerful sound where classic rock instruments organically intertwine with accordion, trumpet and Ukrainian folk motifs.
Over the years, the band's sound has noticeably evolved – from energetic ska punk to large-scale stadium rock. At the same time, the musicians are not afraid to experiment, adding elements of pop music, electronic music and lyrical ballads to their compositions. That is why festival hits and intimate songs sound equally natural in their repertoire.
The band's creative themes include human experiences, love, military brotherhood, national identity, the struggle for freedom, the memory of heroes and the strength of the human spirit. Cooperation with Ukrainian poets plays an important role, giving the band's lyrics special depth. After the beginning of the full-scale war, the central themes in Kozak System's repertoire became songs about supporting Ukrainian defenders, the resilience of Ukrainians, belief in victory and people whom the musicians call true titans.
Social Activity
Charity has long become an integral part of Kozak System's activities. The band regularly organizes concerts and charity tours in Ukraine and abroad, raising funds for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The musicians have personally delivered vehicles, drones and other necessary equipment to the front line for the military on numerous occasions.
In addition, the artists constantly perform for Ukrainian defenders in frontline cities, supporting them through music and live communication. Another important mission of the band remains the promotion of Ukrainian culture, language and modern music industry. Kozak System members are also active ambassadors of social initiatives aimed at rehabilitating wounded soldiers and helping civilians affected by the war.
