Cherkasy Academic Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after Taras Shevchenko - the central cultural complex for all residents of Cherkasy and guests of the city. The main stages in the history of the theater

The first performances took place on the basis of a mobile drama theater. In 1939, the institution received the name Veliky Kobzar. The performances "Nazar Stodolya", "Beztalanna" are among the first. In 1959, the construction of the premises for the stationary theater began, the grand opening of which took place on September 1, 1965. The Cherkassy Theater became the first in the country, during the construction of which the most modern techniques and equipment were used. The status of an academic institution was granted in 2006.

July 1, 2015 turned out to be bad for the Shevchenko Theater in Cherkasy: a fire broke out in the auditorium, which later spread to a large area. The flames engulfed the roof and partially destroyed the ceiling. Fortunately, the fire did not damage the props. Performances were temporarily held on other stages of the city. After a large-scale reconstruction, the Theater named after T. G. Shevchenko inaugurated the new theater season in the spring of 2021.

Over the entire history, the theater team has performed more than 450 productions based on plays by Ukrainian classics and contemporaries, as well as by famous foreign authors. The institution offers interesting entertainment for viewers of all ages and tastes: from fun children's plays to deep dramatic productions. At different times, the stage performed the performances "Taras Shevchenko", "Tytarivna", "Forest Song", "Othello", the operetta "Silva", the comedy "Dear Pamela", the production "Christmas Nativity Scene" and much more.
