Mukachevo Drama Theatre: History and Location
The Drama Theatre in Mukachevo is located at 1 Kyryla i Mefodiia Square. On October 28, 1899, the theatre building was officially opened. In June 1947, the company of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Drama Theatre became the new owner of the theatre building, and on November 25, 1972, the theatre gained the right to operate independently and was renamed the Transcarpathian Regional State Russian Drama Theatre. In 2015, the theatre was renamed the Transcarpathian Regional Drama and Comedy Theatre, and on February 9, 2017, it received its well-known name - Mukachevo Drama Theatre.
The Mukachevo Drama Theatre offers a new theatrical aesthetic that combines a vivid metaphorical form with profound psychological content. The action of the performances develops dynamically across space and time thanks to the skill and energy of talented actors who are ready to take on any task, both on a physical and spiritual level.
Venue Capacity and Layout
Today, the auditorium of the Mukachevo Drama Theatre has 270 seats. Although the number of audience seats has not changed since the building was constructed, improvements in comfort and the reconstruction of the balcony have led to a reduction in the total number of seats. There are now no standing places in the auditorium, while the lighting and sound operators are located on the balcony.
Like the auditorium, the theatre stage has a classic incline, allowing actors to be closer to the audience and, conversely, bringing the audience closer to the action on stage. This creates a distinctive atmosphere of theatrical interaction and improves the acoustics of the auditorium.
What Events Take Place at the Drama Theatre in Mukachevo?
The theatre's repertoire includes a variety of works from Ukrainian and world classics. In addition, the drama theatre company in Mukachevo actively experiments with stage forms: an acting group has been established at the theatre that focuses extensively on the system known as Vsevolod Meyerhold's «biomechanics». Its essence lies in a set of exercises aimed at developing the actor's physical fitness to perform a given acting task.
