Performance "Who combined love and courage"

The performance "Who Brought Love and Courage Together," based on the book by Alina Sarnatska, highlights little-known aspects of the struggle for freedom and equality. The author documents the participation of the queer community in the defense of Ukraine, collecting testimonies of soldiers, medics, volunteers, and veterans who risked their lives despite discriminatory laws and prejudice to preserve the country's independence.

Through personal stories, the viewer is immersed in the realities of war: from joint struggle on the battlefield to defenselessness before the law. These are stories of defenders who are deprived of the right to family happiness by the state. These are stories about the desire for justice. Only in equality and mutual respect can society build a future where every person has the right to be themselves.

Topicality

Bill No. 9103 on civil partnerships has not yet been adopted. Although the Council Committee supported the bill, and its adoption is one of the requirements of European integration.

As of the end of 2024, only a man and a woman can marry in Ukraine. This gives them the opportunity to take care of each other in case of illness, legally make decisions about the life and treatment of their partner, inherit property, and take care of their children. Thousands of queer people have taken up the cause of humanity against evil and risk their lives every day, but they cannot marry their loved one.

This is a story about courage to protect others and defenselessness before the law.

For a state, respect for diversity is a key to rapid development. It is the recognition of different cultures, views, and experiences. When there is such respect in society, people have more opportunities to express themselves.
