Have you ever wondered where a folk song ends and a hit song begins? How an archaic melody that has lived in villages for centuries turns into a stylish funk or jazz standard?
ZGARDA and MOVA will be sharing the same stage for the first time with a joint acoustic program. This is a musical meeting of two worlds united by a common mission - preserving the continuity of Ukrainian culture. Together, the musicians explore how the original energy of folk is transformed into the intellectual groove of Ukrainian retro.
The program includes songs that have gone from village entertainment to large pop stages, and those that were written by composers so skillfully that over the decades they have become part of our folklore.
Why is it worth going to a concert?
Musical tradition: ZGARDA will uniquely perform folk pieces that were discovered in numerous folklore expeditions around Ukraine. MOVA will recreate pop hits that grew out of this same folk element and show how this material sounded in arrangements by composers of the 60s–80s.
Return to the origins of VIA: Legendary ensembles actively used folk instruments - banduras, violins, sopilkas. Thanks to the collaboration with the ZGARDA band, retro hits from the MOVA repertoire will sound even closer to their original versions.
The phenomenon of "author's folk": We will highlight the mystification songs - "Annichka", "My Sheep, Sheep", "Green Maple". The works of Ivasyuk, Poklad, Rybchinsky and other artists sound so authentic that they are often perceived as folk.
The combination of instruments and musical experience of both bands will reveal the beauty of the songs in a new way and emphasize the inextricable bond between generations.

ZGARDA is a Kyiv folk band that has been working with authentic Ukrainian songs and reinterpreting them in a modern live sound since 2018. The band combines a modern acoustic style with traditional motifs, jokingly calling its style “groove folk”. The musicians play exclusively on live instruments: bandura, ethno-wind instruments, violin, double bass, percussion and live vocals.
In January 2025, the band released their debut album "Zgarda".
ZGARDA will perform as follows:
Yulia Vitranyuk (vocals)
Igor Didenchuk (double bass, flutes, vocals)
Vlad Vakolyuk (bandura)
Yuriy Ivanyuk (violin)
Andriy Yuskevych (percussion)
Frontwoman Yulia Vitranyuk is also known as an artist of the contemporary operas "Chornobyldorf" and "GAIA-24" by Opera Aperta, and also a member of the bands Authentix and The Doox.
Vlad Vakolyuk is a soloist of the NAONI orchestra; Ihor Didenchuk is a multi-instrumentalist, a participant in Eurovision as part of the bands Go_A and Kalush; Andriy Yuskevych is a member of the band MOBA and a musician in many other projects; Yuriy Ivanyuk is a soloist of the National Chamber Ensemble "Kyiv Soloists".
MOVA researches and performs songs from the golden fund of Ukrainian pop music of the 1960s–80s. The band reproduces compositions as close as possible to the originals (“Kazka”, “Mozhe ya tebe vygadav”), as well as in bold own arrangements (for example, “Chervona ruta” in the style of acid jazz in the rhythm of 5/8, “Kiev my” in rhythm & blues). MOVA is an acronym formed from a combination of the names of the founders of the group.
