About events

The Picture of Dorian Gray is the only novel by writer Oscar Wilde. The work brought the author a shocking success and scandalous glory. The plot is built around an eternally young and very attractive aristocrat of England in the late nineteenth century. Dorian Gray, who exchanged his soul for the gift of eternal youth.

"The soul is a terrible reality," wrote Oscar Wilde. In 1990, composer Varkoni Matthias and writer-directors As Janos and Gunnar Brownke turned this mystical story with its wild passions and violent sensuality into a frenzied musical.

Problems raised by Oscar Wilde in the novel, attract attention, prompt further reflection. This is confirmed by numerous film adaptations of the work. The first appeared almost simultaneously with the advent of cinema - in 1910. Also, the novel was repeatedly staged on theatrical scenery of different countries of the world, based on his motives created musicals. However, history does not bother the viewer and is becoming more relevant in today's society.

Dorian Gray lives in comfort and succumbs to all possible temptations, which he has enough because of his beauty and status in society. Earthly pleasures, secret vices, dangerous intrigues inspire and stir the consciousness of many. The main character uses the surrounding to achieve the fullness of sensory sensations, subdues people through the magical influence of their beauty. Through this way of life, Dorian loses touch with reality. He blurs the understanding of good and evil, good and reflective, gradually turns him into a monster and destroys the inside. But people thought that such a good person could not be immoral. Even fate made him a wonderful gift and something strange happened: Dorian Gray's wish was fulfilled and his beauty had not faded over the years. Only the portrait depicted everything that happened to Gray's soul.
