A game that becomes reality

"Hide and Seek" is a stage adaptation of the play "Ashes" by Spanish playwright Ljatzer Garcia, first performed on the Ukrainian stage. The production was created in collaboration with the Lutsk theater "Garmider" and the literary platform "Frontera". The events unfold over a day and a half after the death of his father.

At the center of the story are three people who find themselves close to loss but don't know how to talk about it.
Silence, confusion, memories, and the inability to understand one's own feelings gradually reveal the complex history of family relationships.

What is this story about?

Hide and Seek explores mechanisms of pain avoidance, the selectivity of memory, and the relationship between parents and children. The father figure is intentionally devoid of specificity: he exists primarily through the memory of others—through what they remember, silence, repress, or try to understand.
It is a story about loss, but at the same time, about the closeness that we often fail to achieve in time. About things that remain unsaid, and about trying to face them when direct dialogue is no longer possible.
The chamber space, minimalist scenography, and plastic language of the performance create a sense of closure and inner tension. In the production, not only the text is important, but also the pause, silence, distance between characters, the bodily presence, and the interaction of the actors in space.
The minimalism of stage means allows us to focus attention on the person and their inner experience.
"Hide and Seek" offers a conversation about personal and collective memory, about the experience of loss and ways of living with pain. The personal history of a family goes beyond the private and resonates with the contemporary experience of society, in which the topic of loss has become a part of the lives of many people.

The play does not offer ready-made answers. It creates a space for encountering what often remains unspoken — in the family and in ourselves.
