Theatre of Musical Comedy (OATMK named after M. Vodyany) in Odesa: the main milestones in the history of the institution

The Odessa Academic Theatre of Musical Comedy named after M. Vodyany is rightfully considered one of the most modern and best technically equipped theatre venues in Odessa. For almost forty years, it has been captivating not only Odessans but also numerous guests of the city with its bright performances. However, the history of the theatre began far from the Black Sea.

The troupe took its first steps in Lviv back in 1947. It was then that in the spring that the young troupe presented its debut performance with the symbolic title “Eleven Unknowns”. Energetic productions, bold creative decisions and lively presentation quickly brought the troupe popularity. Already in 1953, the theatre was transferred to Odessa – so the Lviv period gave way to the Odessa one, which became a landmark for the theatre.

In Odessa, the troupe, led by the legendary Mikhail Vodyan, has formed its own recognizable style. Performances about the Black Sea Pearl and the city's residents have become real business cards of the theater, and the names of the actors have become known far beyond the region. In 1981, the theater received a new large stage - a building built specifically for the needs of musical comedy. In the early 2000s, in 2001-2002, a large-scale overhaul was carried out here. And in 2006, the institution was officially granted academic status.

The theater is located at 3 Panteleimonovskaya St. The space in front of the theater building is a separate center of attraction for Odessa residents and guests of the city. A wide square with a fountain, benches and decorative sculptures attracts both day and evening, when it is softly illuminated by lanterns. The foyer and vestibule are distinguished by an original architectural solution that provides natural lighting during the day. Inside, there are portraits of actors and photos from performances that create an atmosphere of living theatrical history.

The auditorium is designed for 1,300 seats and is equipped with modern sound and light systems. Technical equipment allows for the implementation of productions of any complexity and ensures a high level of performance quality.

What events take place at the Odesa Musical Comedy Theater

Throughout its history, the theater has been distinguished by its powerful creative potential and boldly opened up new horizons in the genre of musical comedy, remaining one of the flagships of Ukrainian theatrical life. The following are performed on stage:

• children's plays.

Among the current performances in the repertoire of the Odessa musical comedy are productions based on the works of classics and contemporaries:

The theater also hosts large-scale shows, concerts by music stars, symphony orchestras, creative groups, and famous comedians. Among them are BIGSHOW Orchestra, Freedom Ballet, Oleg Filimonov and many others. The institution has repeatedly become a venue for performances by teams of the famous humorous project "League of Laughter".
