"Tartuffe, or the Deceiver" is one of the most famous comedies of world drama, created by the outstanding French playwright Jean Baptiste Moliere. For over 360 years, this play has not left the theater stages of different countries, without losing its relevance and sharpness. The original reading of the immortal classic will be presented to Odessa audiences by the Ivan Franko National Drama Theater (Kyiv). The director of the play is Dmytro Bogomazov. The roles are performed by real stars of Ukrainian theater and cinema:
- Tartuffe – Andriy Saminin (People's Artist of Ukraine), theater and film actor, performer of the legendary role of Pistryak in the play “The Konotop Witch”;
- Orgon (host) – Oleksandr Yarema (Honored Artist of Ukraine), theater and film actor, the same Sotnyk from “The Konotop Witch”;
- Damis, son of Orgon – Oleksandr Rudynsky (Honored Artist of Ukraine), theater and film actor, laureate of the British Academy of Television and Film Arts BAFTA award and many others.
Strong authorial satire that resonates surprisingly aptly today
Under the mask of piety and ostentatious decency, Tartuffe skillfully hides his true nature. He appears in the house of the wealthy Orgon and gradually wins the host's unconditional trust. Blinded by the feigned holiness of his "preacher", the head of the family increasingly falls under his influence, becoming an obedient executor of someone else's will. But behind the loud teachings and instructions lie lies, benefits and a finely thought-out deception.
A witty and ironic comedy exposes hypocrisy in all its manifestations and asks questions that have not lost their importance even today. The performance will give the audience not only sincere laughter and pleasure from the brilliant acting of the actors, but will also become an occasion for serious reflections on trust and moral choices.
