Kirovohrad Regional Philharmonic: A Temple of the Arts Frequently Featured in Local and Regional Media
The largest venue in Kropyvnytskyi, home to the «Concertino» chamber orchestra and other prominent performing ensembles, and a stage for the most ambitious artistic projects - the Kirovohrad Regional Philharmonic leads an active creative life, hosting hundreds of concerts each year and remaining the main cultural hub of the city and region.
It was on the stage of the Kirovohrad Philharmonic that the artistic careers of Antonina and Vitalii Marenych began as members of the famous trio of the 1970s and 1980s. Aurika Rotaru and performer Serhii Domin, who now holds the title of People's Artist of Ukraine, worked for several years as part of the Philharmonic's «Kontakt» ensemble.
History of the Philharmonic
The institution was founded in 1939, but construction of the Philharmonic's concert hall began in 1954. Construction and finishing work took around two years, and the hall was officially opened in January 1956.
During Ukraine's independence, new professional ensembles began operating at the institution, including the «Yelysavet-Retro» ensemble and the «Deja Vu» female vocal trio. Their work continued an important mission: introducing the city and region to classical and folk culture.
The Philharmonic's creative work did not stop even after the full-scale invasion began. The temple of the arts became a center of cultural resistance. Its artists present dozens of patriotic programs («Years of Resilience», «Thank You») and take part in charitable initiatives aimed at providing moral support to the community and supplying our Defenders with essential equipment.
Location
The Kirovohrad Regional Philharmonic is located in the central part of the city, near Kovalivskyi Park, a favorite recreation spot for Kropyvnytskyi residents. The address is 8 Kavaliериiska Street. The city's railway station is also relatively nearby. You can reach the Philharmonic by public transport serving the city center or heading toward the railway station, followed by a short walk of a few minutes.
For visitors arriving by car, there is a spacious parking area next to the Philharmonic.
Architecture, Technical Features, and Auditorium Capacity
The Kirovohrad Regional Philharmonic building is a locally designated architectural monument. The project was designed by Lidiia Kreitor. The building was constructed in the Neoclassical style and features elegant, clean lines. Slender pilasters accentuate the vertical lines of the facade. One of the distinctive features of the architectural ensemble is its tall French windows. The spacious foyer contains two large cloakrooms. The ceilings, cornices, and columns are decorated with exquisite stucco work by local sculptor Volodymyr Zaitsev.
The Philharmonic's concert hall is known for its excellent natural acoustics. Professional sound equipment is used during events. A comprehensive modernization of the stage lighting system has equipped the venue with new, modern LED systems.
The Philharmonic building's entrance has been adapted in accordance with accessibility principles, with a permanent ramp and a staff assistance call button installed.
The concert hall has a capacity of 888 seats, distributed as follows:
- stalls - 725 seats;
- balcony - 163 seats.
Six additional spaces have been specially equipped for visitors with reduced mobility.
