Beethoven originally dedicated the symphony to Napoleon Bonaparte, seeing him as a hero and an ideal of freedom. However, when Napoleon declared himself emperor in 1804, the angry composer tore up the title page with the dedication, exclaiming: “He is also an ordinary man!” At the time of its creation, it was the longest and most complex symphony in history, shocking listeners with its power and duration. The piece begins with two powerful chords and is accompanied by a rapid and life-affirming play of contrasts.
Felix Mendelssohn's " Violin Concerto " is one of the most famous works in the violin repertoire and a true gem of the Romantic era. The composer wrote it over a period of six years (1838–1844) for his friend, the virtuoso violinist Ferdinand David.
