“La Traviata,” choreographed by Radu Poklitaru, is a touching and emotionally charged performance imbued with love for the great operatic original by Giuseppe Verdi. Violetta’s story becomes a hymn to self-sacrifice, devotion, and the power of feelings capable of changing one’s destiny. Like the heroine of “Carmen.TV,” the production that marked the beginning of the Kyiv Modern-Ballet theatre, Violetta embodies an unbreakable desire for love. Despite their different personalities and circumstances, they share one essential quality — the courage to defend their right to love, even at the cost of their own lives.
This production is a romantic declaration of love for opera, expressed through the language of contemporary choreography. The movement of the body, the dramaturgy of motion, and emotional expressiveness create a fresh and profound interpretation of a familiar story.
The stage space is filled with sophisticated multimedia video content, a rich lighting score, and original conceptual costumes. Together, these elements create a multilayered theatrical universe in which the audience becomes fully immersed in the emotions and atmosphere of the performance.
The ballet “La Traviata” was created as part of the “20 Seasons of Sustainability and Innovation” initiative, with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and the Kyiv city budget. It is an example of how a classic work can sound contemporary and remain relevant today.
