21 February 2026, Sat. 18:00 - 21:00
МЦКМ (Жовтневий палац) Kyiv, Алея Героїв Небесної Сотні, 1

THE ACADEMIC THEATRE “KYIV MODERN-BALLET” invites you to the International Centre of Culture and Arts (MCKM) for Alexander Rodin’s two-act ballet “Viy”, choreographed by Radu Poklitaru.

Why you should see “Viy”

  • Based on Mykola Hohol’s novella, the ballet unfolds as a parable of faith and doubt, the trials of the human soul, and inner strength.

  • An intense dramatic narrative on the border between dream and reality, where fear can disguise itself as innocence and the inner struggle becomes the central line of action.

  • Radu Poklitaru’s authorial interpretation: the characters’ names are preserved, while the events and circumstances are reimagined in accordance with the director’s concept.

  • Contemporary Ukrainian music by Alexander Rodin, shaping the production’s emotional landscape and intensifying each dramatic turn.

About the event

Radu Poklitaru’s “Viy” is a mystical story inspired by Mykola Hohol’s novella. At its core are the events that befall an ordinary student, Khoma Brut, when belief in his own abilities proves not strong enough and the line between dream and reality becomes increasingly blurred.

Emotion, passion, despair, and a battle with one’s inner demons—this performance leads the audience through the protagonist’s inner labyrinth and poses direct questions: how do we recognise evil when it sometimes takes the guise of an innocent and beautiful creature? How can one stand up to Viy himself? And who is he, truly—a dream, an unclean force, or the all-too-real shadows of our present day?
