September 17 · Main stage of the MCCM · 2 acts
Act I · 18:00 "Pie and Whip"
During 2024, the band Pyrig and Batig transformed from a niche folk group, respected and listened to in narrow circles of the Lviv and Kyiv intelligentsia, into a well-known group, even a special cultural phenomenon, around which a new layer of connoisseurs of the Ukrainian written word is forming.
The song "Gardens Are Noisy" based on poems by Pavlo Tychyna, written a decade ago, only gained recognition in 2023 thanks to the band.
In the spring of 2024, the first part of the musical triptych "Zamordovani. Podzvin pershy" was released - 12 compositions to the words of Ukrainian artists who died and were destroyed by the Soviet regime, including Mykola Leontovych, Vasyl Stus, Yevhen Pluzhnyk, Mykola Voronyi. In December of the same year, the group released the collection "Kolyadnytskyi" - 12 carols from different regions of Ukraine, which explore not only the ritual, but also the linguistic and ideological diversity of our Land. And in December 2025, the second part of the triptych "Zamordovani" was released.
The band spent most of 2024 touring Ukraine and abroad. Performances in small local communities in Kharkiv and deoccupied villages in Slobozhanshchyna alternated with large concerts at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine in Kyiv, the Lviv Philharmonic, and large halls across the country. In 2025, Pyrig and Batig played a major solo concert at the International Center for Music and Dramatic Arts.
Last summer, Marian Pyryg went to serve in the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Only now is he gradually returning to music, and the performance at GOGOLFEST will be the band's first concert in Kyiv during this time.
Act II · 19:30 "Trojan Women" –
NASHi Theatre
Ukrainian performance-reinterpretation of the legendary production of the Experimental Theater Club "La MaMa" (New York), created in collaboration with the international initiative The Trojan Women Project.
The ancient plot about the women of destroyed Troy is here transferred to the reality of modern war, turning into a powerful stage statement about human resilience, memory and the invincibility of the voice. The chorus becomes the heart of the performance: the actors, through body, sound and rhythm, create a composition that speaks a language that does not exist, but which everyone understands: the language of music, the body and shared experience.
The performance is performed in a language-collage created from ancient and indigenous languages – Greek, Nahuatl, Aramaic, Navajo.
Director: Romana Isabella Soutos. Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes.
