The Road to a Music Career
MONATIK is a popular Ukrainian singer, songwriter, sound producer, composer, and dancer. The musician was born in Lutsk, in the Volyn region of Ukraine. Dmytro's family was not wealthy, and the future star grew up as an ordinary boy. His father worked at a factory assembling aircraft engines and also produced foam rubber. His mother worked as a secretary at the city executive committee. Later, his parents started their own business.
MONATIK's path to success in show business was far from easy. Multiple auditions, casting calls, and life in rented apartments meant the artist experienced all the hardships of starting out in the capital. Young, ambitious, but still without fame or recognition, he persevered. In the end, all his efforts paid off. Today, MONATIK's songs can be heard everywhere, topping prestigious music charts. His music videos attract record-breaking numbers of views, and stadium performances have become reality rather than a dream.
Dmytro's journey toward success began when he happened to see a breakdance mini-show in the center of Lutsk. That was the moment he fell in love with dance and eventually became a successful choreographer and performer. In 2003, Dmytro enrolled in the Faculty of Law at the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management. However, from the very beginning, he knew he would never work in the legal profession. He then attended numerous auditions, determined to introduce himself to the public, attract attention, and win audiences' hearts. Filled with hope, the young artist auditioned for «Star Factory 2». Although he did not pass the audition, the show's producer, Nataliia Mohylevska, noticed his talent and offered him a position as a dancer in her performance team.
Creative Career
In 2009, Dmytro Monatik actively began his journey toward the top of the music industry. Together with Mykola Boichenko, he founded the group Monatique. The band performed in clubs, but Dmytro's ambitions pushed him to audition again, this time for «Everybody Dances!» and later the first season of «The X Factor». Soon, MONATIK began writing songs for established artists.
MONATIK made his debut as a recording artist in the summer of 2011 with the release of the single «TaiUletaiu». He filmed the music video for the song using only a mobile phone. In 2015, he released his debut album «Soundtrack of Today (S.T.D.)». A year later, his second studio album «It Sounds» was released, featuring 16 tracks. In May 2017, the singer performed at the opening ceremony of the first semi-final of «Eurovision 2017» with the English-language version of his hit «Spinning Around», titled Spinning. Later that autumn, MONATIK became one of the judges on the popular dance television show «Dancing with the Stars».
Social Activity
Russia's full-scale invasion found Dmytro Monatik and his family in Barcelona, where he was staying with his wife and children. However, like many other influential public figures, MONATIK could not remain indifferent to the fate of his country. Beginning in April 2022, he joined the charity concert series «Good Evening! We Are from Ukraine», raising funds for humanitarian aid together with other artists. At the same time, Monatik Corporation donated millions of hryvnias to purchase medicines and essential supplies for the military while also supporting cultural initiatives. Grants were provided to young talents, including musicians, artists, and animators.
In April 2022, MONATIK released the rap track «Art Defense», dedicated to all defenders of Ukraine. The song became the symbol of the charity tour of the same name, which began in August. Concerts took place in countries ranging from Poland to Israel, raising more than 20 million hryvnias to support Ukraine. The «Art Defense» initiative also united 20 Ukrainian cities, raising funds to help children and families from liberated and frontline regions. During one of Russia's massive missile attacks, the artist performed for children sheltering in the bomb shelter of Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital. He also visited wounded service members in Lviv, supporting them with music and personal conversations. MONATIK continues to perform for military personnel, border guards, hospital workers, and police officers.
