Becoming a comedian
Yura Kolomiyets is a popular Ukrainian stand-up comedian, creative producer, showrunner of “Underground Stand-up”. Yura is responsible for the strategy of the club’s YouTube channel, development, editing, and editing of various formats. He jokes that while working on editing, he sometimes starts to hate comedians, because he has to do a lot of painstaking work to present a high-quality final product on the channel – the artist’s performance. Most of all, they “get” unnecessary sounds and exclamations. At the same time, the author himself understands perfectly well that his performances look exactly like this from the outside. It’s like a singer’s live performance during a tour or a performance at a festival – it’s impossible to avoid bad moments one hundred percent. After all, they are the ones who fill the event with that spunk that makes live meetings so appreciated by the audience of fans.
In addition to working in stand-up, the artist works on his own projects on the Internet. The idea of creating his own YouTube channel has been around for a long time. Yuriy wanted to do something of his own and give people the opportunity to see himself brighter, "more real." And he also wanted to prove to other colleagues from the humor industry that he can create high-quality videos. Of course, Yura does not yet call himself a YouTube star, but he is confidently moving towards it. Kolomiyets has even been consulted several times as a YouTube manager.
Creative path
Yura Kolomiyets' unique style, charisma, and easy manner of communication have won the hearts of thousands of comedy fans in Ukraine. A particularly powerful development of stand-up came after the full-scale invasion, when the demand for Ukrainian humor grew wildly. Kolomiyets also became firmly established in his understanding of his calling. He began to appear more often on the stages of the country's clubs with his own jokes. He realized that there was popularity and recognition when he received feedback from fans after a long silence on his author's channel. At first, Yuriy was even offended by the audience for not asking why there were no new videos. However, he later received several satisfied reviews, the authors of which wrote that they were simply afraid to interrupt the comedian's creative process.
Yura Kolomiyets's work touches on a variety of topics:
- politics and life situations;
- pets and the culture of their owners;
- travel and foreigners;
- cooking, restaurant business and hedonism and
much more.
Today, the comedian's "experience" exceeds 6 years. He has held successful solo concerts, and the number of loyal fans has increased. The material is accumulating, requiring more careful processing. When you write, questions often arise: are you repeating yourself in humor topics, or have other comedians done the same? However, in reality, Yuri should not be afraid of this. After all, even the same problem is presented in different ways by different authors. And true connoisseurs of your style will definitely appreciate the original approach to the discussion.
Artist's style and development
Yura Kolomiyets's brightly ironic, self-critical, professional material in stand-up has conquered not only the real stage, but also the virtual one. The author is actively working on creating author's podcasts and interesting formats. Among them:
- "Taste, Taste". This is a podcast format where Yura and his guests (Ukrainian stand-up stars, famous chefs of popular restaurants) actually taste various dishes or drinks. When launching the podcast, Yura noted that in addition to chatting, he also wants to do what he wants. In this case, to taste something interesting. The participants in the episodes were Vasyl Baydak, Yegor Shataylo, Jeyhun Safarov, Anton Senin, Yevhen Menzelevsky
and others; - “Real Cinema Club”. Yura presents the format as an addition to the already well-known “Underground Cinema Club”. But in this project, participants have the opportunity to discuss their favorite films in more depth and detail. Kostya Trembovetsky, Svyat Zagaykevich, Hanna Kochegura, Oleksandr Kachura and others came to visit the comedian’s cinema club.
- In 2024, Yura Kolomiyets also joined the team of the stand-up show “Homin Out”.
Stand-up and acting
Yura Kolomiyets believes that the work of an actor and a stand-up artist is directly related. For example, a comedian creates a large solo program and goes on tour around the cities of the country. He offers the audience the same jokes. And no matter how hits they turn out to be, the presentation always takes place differently. The reason may be the mood of the performer, the behavior of the audience, external factors. And then, in order to preserve the meaning and power of the joke, you need to really play. For some, this is an easier task, for others - more difficult. But such moments arise, and they cannot be avoided.
The comedian notes that in the West, the film industry has long begun to involve comedians in the filming of films. This works, because a comedian is usually a ready-made artist who only needs to be directed, and he will do most of the work himself. Yuri even personally had to participate in the casting for a role in a Ukrainian TV series. Comedians were needed, because the actorsYou have to learn to be funny. And representatives of the humorous genre are naturally funny, and don't have to pretend anything. Yura Kolomiyets. A comfortable comedian with extensive experience, an ambassador of hedonism and a producer of your favorite YouTube shows.
