Tsviah is a punk rock and ska-punk band from Novovolynsk that has been creating original tracks with energetic sound and meaningful lyrics since 2014, in which folklore and mystical motifs intertwine. The band’s live shows are always large-scale musical and theatrical performances where the audience feels part of a unique fairy-tale world. Band lineup:

History of creation

The band Tsviah was founded in 2014 in Volyn. Its history began with a chance meeting at one of the local rock gatherings. It was there that vocalist and multidisciplinary artist Serhii «Smith» Loniuk – a person who combines the roles of musician, artist and sculptor – crossed paths with bassist Andrii «Safron» Sofroniuk. They did not hesitate for long and decided to create their own collective.

Soon «Safron» introduced Serhii to trumpeter Andrii «Kucha» Kuchuk. He, in turn, invited guitarist Oleksandr Sobchyk, drummer Andrii Kuderskyi and trombonist Oleh Palokha to the new band. The lineup gradually took shape, and the musicians immediately set to work on the most important thing – creating original material. From the very beginning Tsviah was built as a collective with its own sound, atmosphere and stage character.

Choice of the name

The name «Tsviah» has a quite specific symbolic meaning for the musicians. Band leader Serhii Loniuk explained it as an image of something strong, solid and unyielding. In his conviction, the name determines not only how the collective is perceived by listeners, but also a certain responsibility for their own work. If you call yourself «Tsviah», then the work must be done firmly, qualitatively and to the end – after all, it is not without reason that they say that as you name a ship, so it will sail.

Creative path

The musical path of Tsviah resembles a gradual transformation of a local Volyn punk collective into one of the most recognizable representatives of Ukrainian mystical ska-punk. The members themselves can no longer recall exactly when their debut took place. It is only known that it happened on Youth Day, when the band performed one song from the stage in a still somewhat different lineup. The excitement was enormous – the musicians’ legs were literally trembling, but the first fear quickly gave way to the pleasure of the live performance and the audience’s reaction.

First achievements

On 21 July 2017 the band presented its debut album «Kikimora», which included 11 original compositions. At the centre of the record is the desire to return the listener to their own cultural roots through contemporary music. The musicians wanted to awaken the consciousness of Ukrainians, remind them of long-forgotten traditions, and extract from the depths of folk culture that which has true value. For this they turned to fairy-tale, lyrical and everyday images familiar from childhood.

In such a creative concept the band’s music became a way to remind a person who they are and where their home is. And the main principle of the band remained sincerity.

At the end of 2017 Tsviah became the winner of «Louder Music Battle», and in the spring of 2018 reached the final of Dockers Rock Battle. That same year saxophonist Kostiantyn Kuderskyi joined the collective, further expanding its brass sound.

Creative development

Over the following years the band performed at numerous festivals and major music events, including «Motane Lito», «Rok Bulava», «Perlyna Zakhodu», «Fest.Like», «Korets Rock», Grove Fest, «Kniazhyi», «Karpatskyi Prostir», «Taras Bulba» and «Chervona Ruta». Festival life helped the collective go beyond its native region and gradually form a wider audience.

In 2019 Tsviah’s discography was supplemented by the mini-album «While the Trolls Sleep». It was the fairy-tale plots about trolls, witches and werewolves that finally secured for the musicians the reputation of a kind of «chief storytellers» of the Volyn rock scene. During this period the collective’s concert slogan was also formed: «Love your mom, listen to Tsviah!»

In 2020 the band released the track «Black Molfar», which became one of Tsviah’s main calling cards and later surpassed the mark of one million streams on Spotify. Even the pandemic and the related restrictions did not stop the team’s work. The musicians accumulated new material, sought non-standard ways of using brass instruments in their music and thought through concepts for future theatrical concerts.

Contemporary period

In 2022 the singles «Alchemy» and «Jim» were recorded, although the official release on streaming services took place already at the beginning of 2023. The new compositions helped the collective reach larger stages, in particular the Faine Misto festival.

The period of 2025–2026 became for Tsviah a time of active expansion of concert geography, conceptual releases and even greater attention to charitable activity. The collective finally secured for itself the status of one of the brightest Ukrainian ska-punk bands.

At the end of 2025 the musicians presented the mini-album «The Theater Needs Props». The record unfolds a new figurative story – in it appear wandering actors, kings, jesters and a mysterious theatrical «perfumer» who collects human destinies. In support of the EP the band set off on a large-scale concert tour of Ukrainian cities, built around the same-named concept.

Music style

The musical style of Tsviah is formed at the intersection of punk rock, ska-punk, rock and roll and folk. The basis of many compositions is a fast and driving punk rhythm, while the characteristic ska dance pulse adds mobility and lightness to the music.

A special role in the sound is played by brass instruments – trumpet and trombone. It is they that make the band’s sound simultaneously fiery and mysterious. Guitar parts combine raw punk energy with clear rock-and-roll riffs, while the brass adds a sense of theatricality and almost carnival dynamics to the compositions.

A separate foundation of the creativity is Ukrainian folklore. The musicians actively use folk motifs, characteristic melodic turns and other ethnic elements, thanks to which their style acquires authenticity. Folklore in Tsviah’s performance does not look like a museum reconstruction – it organically embeds itself into modern rock and helps create its own easily recognizable musical face.

The band masterfully balances between two poles – cheerful, reckless punk and a gloomy, mystical atmosphere. It is this contrast that largely determines its sound and makes the songs recognizable from the very first bars.

Song themes

The lyrics of are closely connected with Ukrainian and European demonology. In the texts and stage images come to life witches, black molfars, trolls, vampires, kikimoras and demons. Mystical characters here are not simply a decorative element – they become part of the collective’s integral artistic world.

During concerts this atmosphere intensifies, and an ordinary rock performance turns into a kind of journey through dark fantasy.

Features of the band’s live shows

All the group’s concerts are built as full-fledged musical and theatrical performances, where music, plot, characters and visual atmosphere unite into a complete picture. The viewer is immersed in a space of dark fantasy, mysticism and frantic stage energy.

Each large-scale tour of the band has its own plot concept – among such projects were «Alchemy», «The Theater Needs Props» and «To the Center of the Earth». Moreover, the performance can begin even before the first composition sounds. In the foyer guests are sometimes met by actors in knightly armor or thematic images, creating the necessary mood even before entering the concert hall.

Frontman Serhii «Smith» Loniuk performs the role of the chief storyteller. He is not simply the leader of the collective, but a kind of guide who leads the audience through the plot and helps connect individual songs into one stage story. That is why a Tsviah live show is perceived rather as a theatrical journey than as an ordinary concert performance.

Civic position and social activity

The civic position of the band «Tsviah» is clearly pro-Ukrainian and patriotic. After the start of the full-scale invasion the musicians focused a significant part of their activity on volunteering and supporting the Ukrainian army.

The collective’s performances, in particular large concert tours and participation in festivals, increasingly turn into charitable events with fundraising for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In addition, Tsviah consistently popularizes Ukrainian mythology, folklore and cultural heritage. The musicians show that folk culture can sound relevant, driving and unusual. Their creativity helps to rethink Ukrainian images in the language of the contemporary stage and at the same time strengthens the sense of cultural identity.
