The Legend of Ukrainian Choral Art
The National Honored Academic Ukrainian Folk Choir of Ukraine named after G. G. Veryovka is a unique creative formation that has brought Ukrainian culture to the world level. The choir's tours took place in Canada, the USA, France, Mexico, Switzerland, Poland, Germany and other countries of the world. In general, the history of the collective has more than 80 years! During this time, the choir members have reached unprecedented heights in art and confidently hold this high bar. By the way, the Veryovka Choir became the only Ukrainian collective whose vinyl circulations exceeded 8 million copies. And it was without the performances of the Veryovka Choir that not a single inauguration of the President of Ukraine took place.
The most powerful choral collective in Ukraine was created in 1943 in the city of Kharkiv. Hryhoriy Guriyovych Veryovka was appointed artistic director and chief conductor. Later, the initiative group of the choir moved to Kyiv, the “Kharkiv” and “Kyiv” groups were reunited, and the selection of artists for the choir, orchestra, and dance troupe continued. In parallel, the concept of the participants’ clothing style was established: thanks to the director’s persistence, the ethnographic option became a priority.
The name of H. G. Veryovka and the title of Honored were awarded to the choir in 1965. The title of academic – in 1971, and the status of national – in 1997.
Since the fall of 2021, the acting conductor The director and artistic director of the choir is Igor Kuryliv.
The repertoire of the Grigoriy Veryovka Choir
Over its long creative history, the collective has been enriched with unique programs, which include numbers of the most diverse content:
- historical dumas;
- Cossack and Chumach songs and dances;
- humorous choral scenes;
- classical arrangements in a cappella format and songs by modern composers;
- folk opera;
- ritual lyrics of the Ukrainian people and the peoples of the world and much more.
Virtuosoly reproducing the vocal, musical and dance culture of all corners of Ukraine, the collective continues to harmoniously combine in its work high professionalism, sincerity, humor and sincerity.
The full composition of the formation – choir, orchestra and ballet – today has over 150 participants. The most outstanding choral group in Ukraine.
