Maria Matios

Stage biography:

• Born: December 19, 1959 in the village of Roztoky, Chernivtsi region, in a Hutsul family.
• Education: Faculty of Philology, Chernivtsi State University (1982).

Creative path:

• She published her first poems at the age of 15.
• His debut in prose was the novella "Yuryana and Dovgopol" (1992).
• Author of over 20 books, including:
• "Sweet Darusya" (2004)
• "The Nation" (2001)
• "Almost Never the Other Way Around" (2007)
• "Moskalytsia" (2008)
• "Diary of an Executioner" (2005)

Her works have been translated into Japanese, Chinese, Polish, Serbian, Croatian, Belarusian, Russian, and Romanian.

Awards and honors:

• Laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine (2005) for the novel "Sweet Darusya".
• Winner of the Coronation of the Word competition (2007).
• Winner of the BBC Book of the Year Award (2008).
• Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine (2008).
• Order of Princess Olga, 3rd degree (2015).

Community activities:

• People's Deputy of Ukraine of the 7th convocation (UDAR party) and the 8th convocation (BPP).
• An active participant in the cultural and political life of the country.
