The making of an artist
Iryna Bilyk was born in Kyiv into a family of engineers. Her father worked at an aircraft factory, and it was he who inspired her love of music from an early age and supported her first creative steps. Her mother was also an engineer at an aviation enterprise before later becoming the head chef at the Inter TV channel. Iryna was the eldest child in the family, and her talent became evident from a very young age.At just four years old, the future star began singing, and by the age of five she had become passionate about dancing and classical ballet. She made her stage debut at six as a member of the children's ensemble «Sonechko». Together with the group, the young performer toured extensively throughout the former Soviet Union, appeared on music television and radio programs, and gained her first experience performing before large audiences.
Without telling her parents, Iryna began attending a music studio at the age of seven and practiced on her neighbors' piano. At the same time, she studied at a theater studio, where her teachers praised her natural charisma and even predicted a great future on the theatrical stage. At the age of ten, she wrote her first song, and after graduating from music school she began teaching music to children, leading her own class. Bilyk received her professional education at the Glière Kyiv State Music College, majoring in pop vocals. She successfully graduated in 1993.
Creative career
The beginning of her music career
The first major milestone in her professional career came with her participation in the 1989 «Chervona Ruta» festival. Due to poor living conditions at the hotel, Iryna fell ill and, in her opinion, was unable to fully demonstrate her abilities. Nevertheless, her performance attracted the attention of music industry professionals. The festival became both her first and last competitive appearance as a contestant. The following year, at the «Spring Hopes» festival in Vinnytsia, the singer met the musicians of the Ajax band - Yurii Nikitin, Heorhii Uchaikin, and Zhan Bolotov. Together they created the creative project «This Rain Will Last for a Long Time». It was within this project that Iryna Bilyk's debut album «The Cuckoo Sang» was released.
Her collaboration with Yurii Nikitin played an especially important role in the artist's development. He became not only her producer but also someone very close to her. This creative partnership opened the door to the big stage and helped shape Bilyk's recognizable artistic style.
