The Artist’s Beginnings
Serhii Myronenko was born in the Poltava region into a poor but very close-knit and loving family. His mother essentially raised him and his younger brother on her own, working almost around the clock at a local farm. Despite her constant workload, she always found time for her children, and Serhii credits her with his special attitude toward music. As the artist later recalled, perhaps it was he, as the elder son, who inherited his mother’s musical ear.The boy’s love of singing emerged almost from early childhood. Serhii never needed a special reason to sing – he could turn practically any activity into a small vocal performance. Already in the first grade, the future performer began studying at a music school, specializing in guitar. However, he was much more willing to devote most of his free time to music than to school subjects. Competitions in nearby cities, concerts, and local cultural events – Myronenko used every opportunity to take the stage and test his abilities in front of an audience.
One of his important childhood achievements was a victory in Poltava, where Serhii took part as an invited contestant in a competition for diploma and laureate recipients. The encouraging words of composers, their support, and their belief in his abilities became an important sign of recognition for the young singer.
Training and Education
At the age of 14, after completing nine grades of school, Serhii eventually persuaded his mother, following lengthy discussions, to let him move to the capital. In Kyiv, he entered the Heorhii Maiboroda Music College, studying in the vocal department. Singing was the boy’s main goal, but the curriculum also required students to master keyboard instruments and the bandura. There was no way to avoid the latter requirement, so the young musician set about developing these skills as well.Moving to Kyiv marked the beginning of truly adult life. Unwilling to place an additional financial burden on his mother, Serhii looked for ways to earn money himself. In the mornings, he went to college, gradually moving closer to his musical dream. After classes, he attended an evening external school to obtain a certificate of complete general secondary education. He then worked at night in a warehouse handling goods declarations. There was almost no time left for sleep, so Myronenko would sometimes fall asleep right during classes.
This exhausting schedule did not prevent Serhii from successfully completing his studies, even ahead of schedule, and obtaining the qualification of vocalist. Upon graduating from college, he also received an offer of professional employment. At just 15 years old, Serhii Myronenko became a vocalist and bandura player with the Heorhii Maiboroda National Honored Bandura Capella.
For a person who had been accustomed to working practically without a break since childhood, this was not enough. Myronenko decided to continue his education and entered the National University of Culture and Arts. His studies proved more difficult than he had expected, and he was initially unable to settle on a faculty – Serhii changed three fields of study before ultimately focusing on pop vocals.
Creative Career
Participation in Television Projects
Television music shows became a kind of gateway to the big stage for Serhii Myronenko. Each new broadcast required endurance, persistence, and the ability to capture the audience’s attention literally within a few minutes. His television debut came on «Karaoke on the Maidan», where the young performer’s vocals left an impression on viewers and helped him take his first steps toward nationwide recognition.Next came «Chance», where Serhii reached the final. In the project «Our Song», the performer won. And as a result of his participation in the «Ukrainian Song of the Year» show, Myronenko became a laureate of the project. The singer’s performances attracted attention not only because of his vocals, but also because of his natural stage charisma and emotional delivery. In one episode of «Chance», the artist performed a composition that prompted a storm of applause from the audience.
Myronenko later recalled that after the «Chance» broadcast, he understood for the first time from his own experience what it meant to «wake up famous». He was riding an ordinary minibus, while passengers were already recognizing him, looking at him, and whispering to one another. But the real test of popularity came with the «Chance» tour. The group performed at major venues and toured across Ukraine, while particularly enthusiastic female fans waited for the participants outside hotels. According to Serhii’s recollections, fans even rocked the buses, and on one occasion the doors were damaged; because of the excessive attention from the public, the artists sometimes literally had to flee the stage.
In 2013, Serhii also took part in the casting for the television project «X-Factor» in Kharkiv.
The Impact of Television Shows on the Artist’s Future Career
Television shows not only brought Serhii popularity but also opened up new professional opportunities, including opportunities to work with well-known producers and representatives of the music industry. Each such project left its mark on the artist’s creative biography – from exhausting rehearsals and pre-broadcast nerves to major concerts and triumphant performances. Myronenko repeatedly emphasized that this period taught him to withstand pressure, work in front of large audiences, and at the same time maintain his individuality.
As for the excessive attention from female fans, Myronenko said with a touch of irony that a kind of «star syndrome» still has to be experienced, even if it manifests itself in a mild form. Such an experience, the singer believes, builds resilience and provides «immunity» against arrogance, after which one can focus more calmly on work and results.
First Solo Works
Serhii Myronenko’s first independent step after gaining television popularity was the release of the song «Don’t Be Silent» in 2006. The composition continued his success, although a fully developed and systematic solo career had not yet emerged at that time.A new major stage in Myronenko’s professional career began in 2019. This period is considered the starting point of his fully independent solo career on the Ukrainian music market. At that time, the singer signed a major contract with the MOST Enterprise production center and essentially rebooted his repertoire, opening a new chapter in his creative work.
Creative Development
The first official release of the renewed period was the composition «A Lonely Proud Man», released on September 30, 2019. In spring 2020, the artist announced an upcoming tour across Ukraine. The subsequent plans were changed by the coronavirus pandemic. Once at home, the artist did not stop working creatively: he wrote new songs, worked on his vocals and exercised, held live streams for his followers, and organized an online concert. Even during this difficult period, Myronenko continued experimenting – in particular, he released a song recorded in collaboration with three-time Grammy nominee Luca Pretolesi.
The Contemporary Stage
Serhii Myronenko’s contemporary creative period, spanning 2022–2026, has been marked by a notable renewal of his repertoire.
