Livinston is a Ukrainian musical group founded as a duo in 2017 by vocalist Andriy Pantyukh and cellist Gleb Ivanov.
Livinston is a Ukrainian band with a distinctly melancholic mood, which is felt both in the music and in the lyrics. Their tracks envelop the listener in a soft, slightly disturbing atmosphere of light sadness. The combination of guitar and cello plays an important role in the sound – it is this duet of instruments that creates a dense, sometimes even gothic mood. Despite such an emotional palette, the musicians themselves define their music as baroque pop - a style that was formed in the 1960s and combined elements of the classical tradition with pop and rock sounds.
The key element in Livingston's compositions is the voice of vocalist Andriy Pantyukh. His deep, soft baritone creates an intimate atmosphere, where vocals naturally intertwine with instrumental parts. As a result, each track sounds multi-layered, and Livingston's music acquires a chamber, almost theatrical character.
History of the band
The Livinston band appeared in Kyiv as a duet. Vocalist and performer Andriy Pantyukh began to engage in music while studying at the University of Economics. At first he performed covers, but later switched to original songs. An important stage in Andriy's creative path was his participation in the show "Voice of the Country", after which the musician decided to devote himself entirely to the stage. It was there that he met cellist Gleb Ivanov, who had an academic musical education and experience performing in ensembles and orchestras.
Initially, the project was called Jonathan Livingston - the first releases appeared under it. Later, the name was shortened to Livingston. In 2017, the band, in collaboration with the Masterskaya label, presented the debut track "Lullaby". Already in the spring of 2018, the first album "Under the Green Willows" was released, which included the songs "With You", "Sick" and "Go to Sleep". The work attracted the attention of the music community to Livingston and was included in the lists of the most interesting releases of the year.
In 2019, Livinston's second album, entitled "Who Am I?", was released. At the same time, the band's first solo concert took place at the Caribbean Club. According to Andriy Pantyukh, this work became a reflection on human weaknesses, morality and temptations. The clip for the track Livingston "Give Me a River" from this album was selected for the program of the 2020 Stockholm Film Festival. The filming took place near the Kuyalnytskyi estuary near Odessa.
A year later, the performers released the album "Durman", which included the compositions "Ophelia", "Temple" and "Lady Macbeth". In 2021, Livingston presented the song "Winter" and announced a temporary pause in creativity. After the start of the full-scale invasion, the musicians returned to the stage and joined charity concerts. In March 2023, the band announced the resumption of activities in a new format: cellist Gleb Ivanov left the band, and Andriy Pantyukh was joined by the string quartet Infinito String Music.
Themes of creativity
The creativity of the band Livingston is often focused on the inner world of a person and his dialogue with the past. The lyrics of the songs contain themes of memory, existential searches, nostalgia and immersion in one's own feelings. While listening, the effect of a sincere confession arises, where the listener is left alone with the vocalist's voice and live instrumental music.
Natural images occupy an important place in the band's poetics. In many compositions, the symbol of water appears, personifying the flow of time, the depth of the subconscious and purification. Thanks to such imagery, Livingston's songs sound atmospheric and create space for inner reflection.
Songs to get to know Livinston
- “Dust”. The composition tells about the devastation, sadness and disappointment that arise after the wrong choice. The track sounds like motives of guilt and fatigue, but at the same time there is a quiet expectation of change - the belief that hope can live even in the darkest moments;
- “Where the Night Touches the Water”. The song reveals a different emotional state - a feeling of loneliness and an attempt to regain a living presence in the world. Despair and the desire for rebirth are combined here;
- “Madonna”. The song turns to the image of a fatal woman, inspired by the work of Edvard Munch. In this story, holiness and sin are intertwined, and desire turns into a symbolic ritual;
- “That Crimson Night”. The work conveys a state of oblivion, when human boundaries dissolve in fiery intimacy;
- “Give me a river.” The track sounds like a meditative conversation about finding inner peace. The image of the river symbolizes movement, purification and a return to one's own origins.

The atmosphere of the band's live performances
Since Andriy Pantyukh began performing with the Infinito string quartet, Livingston's concerts have acquired a special emotional depth. Live instrumentals, melodic arrangements, and a chamber atmosphere make each live performance very insightful. These performances combine indie aesthetics, ethno-romanticism, and expressive Ukrainian language.
The musicians consciously avoid excessive spectacle, focusing on sound and mood. That is why Livingston's concerts often resemble chamber performances in a philharmonic hall or in the atmosphere of an ancient temple. Many listeners describe these live performances as a purifying and self-reflective experience.
Visual aesthetics
The visual style of the Livingston band organically complements their baroque-pop music, transforming their work into a holistic art project. Here, a harmonious combination of minimalism, symbolism and cinematic imagery is observed. The covers of Livingston releases are usually restrained, but filled with meaning. They often feature motifs of water, trees or fog. For example, the design of the album "Who am I?" is made in muted dark shades, which emphasizes the theme of self-discovery.
Livinston's clips are also distinguished by their artistic style. Filming takes place in natural locations - among forests, rivers or rocks, sometimes in majestic architectural spaces. On stage, the musicians maintain restraint so that the audience's attention is focused primarily on the music.
Livinston's audience
The band's audience is mainly a young audience, for whom not only emotions but also meanings are important in music. These are listeners who appreciate the combination of academic instrumental sound with the modern indie scene. For them, the band's songs become a space for reflection, experiences and internal dialogue.

Why is it worth attending a Livinston concert
A Livinston concert is a combination of the vocalist's velvety timbre and the live sound of instruments, which creates the effect of complete immersion. Such a performance is more reminiscent of a chamber art performance than an ordinary music concert. That is why the band's live performance is often perceived as a rare opportunity to hear baroque pop live and feel its atmosphere on stage.
