History of the band
LUIKU – solo project of Ukrainian composer, arranger, music producer, world music expert, set designer Dmytro Tsyperdyuk. The history of the LUIKU band began with a creative challenge - Dmytro Tsyperdyuk was approached with a proposal to create a song for a film, where Polish, Ukrainian and Balkan motifs were to be intertwined. This composition became the starting point, after which the musician decided not to stop and form a full-fledged collective. Thus, the LUIKU band appeared in the music industry - a bright project with an original sound and expressive charisma. The name of the band is also not accidental - it reflects its multicultural style. The word LUIKU arose as a kind of mix between the gypsy name Loiko and the Western Ukrainian "uncle", which adds a special flavor to the sound. At the very beginning, the project was conceived as an electronic one with ethnic content, but in the process it grew into a full-fledged group with original music, where each track is a separate story, full of lively energy and drive.
Creative path
The single of the LUIKU group - the song "Oh, Jesus Mary" - became a bright debut of the group. The release immediately attracted the attention of the audience with a video clip released in 2013. The title of the composition, despite its sound, is more emotional than religious in nature - it is an exclamation of surprise, which well conveys the mood of the track. The first album "Jäger Maister" quickly gained recognition and was included in the list of the best Ukrainian records of 2015. This was a significant step in the band's career and a serious signal for the industry. Later, LUIKU began to actively perform at festivals, and in 2019, their live performance at one of the largest festivals in Poland - Pannonica - became a real revelation of the event.
The band's performance turned into a spectacular performance - fans danced and did not stop for a minute, and the atmosphere of drive kept the audience from the first to the last chord. Such success opened the door for the band to new festivals and international tours. Since then, LUIKU has regularly appeared on the European stage, strengthening its popularity and expanding its audience of fans.
Style and creative development
LUIKU's music is an explosive mix of genres that is difficult to fit into the framework of one style. Most often, the group's work is described as gypsy-Ukrainian dance with elements of Balkan sound, which in places echoes the mood of Goran Bregović's work. Each composition intertwines motifs of different cultures – Ukrainian, Turkish, Polish, Romanian and Hungarian, creating a unique musical cocktail. The band actively uses authentic instruments on stage – from percussion to Turkish saz and accordion, thanks to which their sound sounds as lively and rich as possible. According to the members, LUIKU’s work is a whole palette of sounds, combining electronics, folk melodies and experimental rhythms.
The main idea of the group is to popularize ethnic music from different regions, in particular the Carpathian region of Ukraine, Poland and Romania, as well as Balkan traditions. This approach makes LUIKU’s style universal – it easily finds a response from listeners from different countries. That is why the band’s live shows are held with equal success both in Ukraine and abroad, leaving vivid emotions and an unforgettable experience.
Civic position
The LUIKU band, led by Dmytro Tsyperdyuk, actively combines creativity with a civic position. The band regularly participates in charity concerts and large-scale initiatives aimed at supporting the Defense Forces of Ukraine. In particular, in the spring of 2026, the project participants become part of the “Music of Freedom” event, where they raise significant funds to help the military. At the same time, the band is touring Europe - concerts in Germany, France, and Poland are turning into not only musical performances, but also an instrument of cultural diplomacy. Through its music, LUIKU brings Ukrainian culture to the world and unites the audience around common values.
The realities in which Ukrainians live since the beginning of the full-scale war inspired LUIKU to create the composition "Sun on Concrete Walls" in collaboration with Polish artists: the famous folk group Dikanda and the frontman of the rock band Piersi, Adam Asanov. The track became an emotional reflection on the events of the war. The song combines personal stories of people separated by circumstances, and at the same time carries a symbol of hope. The release was accompanied by a video clip that emphasized the depth of the composition and its main idea. The bilingualism of the work became another symbol of the unity of cultures, and the song itself received a warm response from both fans and representatives of the music industry.
